Pseudo-anonymous research administrator, sometimes professor of political philosophy, and player of games (especially indie adventure games and OSR-like tabletop RPGs). Salvaging whatever life of the mind I can find with other rare freaks in the American Heartland. Book nut. Happily married. Interested in adventure stories, blackpowder firearms, film noir, geopolitics, intellectual history (especially philosophy and psychoanalysis), miniature painting, pin-up art, prehistory, Tiki drinks, war, and words. Grew up in Bermuda. Research and teaching interests include ancient political thought (especially Plato), Middle Eastern studies, political realisms, and European philosophy. J. G. Ballard is my co-pilot. Sometimes I write things.

In addition to Call of Cthulhu, I like to run short-form games intended to explore rules-lean systems of interest (e.g., 17th Century Minimalist, Fléaux!, and Knave/Vaults of Vaarn), with an eye toward: (A) developing an OSR sourcebook for adventure gaming in 17th-century Bermuda and (B) starting Cubicle 7’s The Enemy Within campaign sometime in ???. I really enjoy black comedy, cosmic and folk horror, failing forward, flintlocks, high strangeness, low fantasy grit, seafaring, unbalanced encounters, and weird, psychedelic magic. See A Field in England (2013), Dungeon Degenerates, and various Lamentations of the Flame Princess modules set in early modern Europe for vibes. I’m also interested in Mothership, PIRATE BORG, games set in mythic prehistory (Fire & Stone, Primal Quest), and anything set underground or underwater.
